The European explorers who first set eyes on this unspoiled stretch of Florida panhandle likely experienced the healing power of the area by virtue of originally naming the Cape after Saint Blaise of Sebastea.ย Saint Blaise was a medical doctor and bishop in what is now Sivas, Turkey who became a healer and then, eventually, a “physician of souls”.ย
People often turned to Saint Blaise for healing miracles.ย Over the course of the 18th century the original name of Cape Saint Blaise reverted to the current day title of Cape San Blas.
